About DesignLively

Hello, my name is Kat. Thanks for visiting DesignLively!

I’m a graphic designer, writer, bookworm, DIYer, and artist. Here on DesignLively I like to share my creative endeavors, New England adventures, my home renovation journey, and things that make me smile.

A little about me – I love the color yellow, polka dots, big cups of coffee, theme parties, whales, sewing, used books, and being on the water. I live outside of Boston with my husband and daughter.

“It isn’t the great big pleasures that count the most. It’s making a great deal out of the little ones.” – Jean Webster

  1. Congrats on being “Freshly Pressed.” I’m glad I found your blog…good luck with the three ladies in a sugar jar – perhaps I should suggest this to my husband who says “not yet” to a baby and “you’re out of your mind” to a dog.

    Happy blogging (and reading!!!)

  2. I love your blog. What an inspiration. I can’t wait to read more and to check out your inspiration/living blog list. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Kat – what great reasons to create a blog . . . your long love of reading and appreciation of the simple, carefree things in life. FP is well deserved! If I may – to Nichole, I can’t help much on the baby thing. However, I had the very same mindset as your husband on the dog. No way!!! She gently kept suggesting the addition though, and we have been owned for the last 4 years by a (very pertinant to tomorrow’s celebration btw) loyal and loving Irish farm dog – a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. I cannot imagine life with out Cassidy. So keep his feet to the fire on both counts!

  4. Found you on FP and so glad I did. Love your blog and outlook and your idea of finding the simple, beautiful things in life…there are so many things to be grateful for and sometimes they need to be pointed out. Thanks for doing that!
    Love from North Dakota!

  5. I guess I should clarify, the song is called “House of Tom Bombadil”. I figured the name would show up with the video. Sorry for that seemingly random post! πŸ™‚

  7. I don’t recall how I exactly stumbled onto your beautiful part of the blog world, but I’m so glad I did. It has such a fresh appeal and great content. In fact, I love it so much I’ve nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award. I hope you’ll accept. See you around…

  8. Superb! I’ve just spent over an hour perusing your blog and am a little resentful towards my boyfriend for pulling me to bed! It’s wonderful, I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

  9. I just LOVE your blog! We have a lot in common with our love of crafting, reading and such. Will definitely be following you!

  10. What a lovely blog! I’m glad to have found it πŸ™‚ I have especially fond memories of reading Tolkien’s books as a child as well and love how you named your blog after it and its inspiring philosophy. Withywindle…it really falls off the tongue nicely!

  11. Kat-

I love the idea behind your blog. The paper goods made for a wedding is was originally caught my eye.

I am currently in the design industry as a landscape architect but have a passion for graphic design.

Are you a self taught graphic designer or do you have a professional education?

I have been pondering going back to get my Masters but cannot figure out if it will be a worth while investment as a lot can be self taught.

Would love to hear your opinion.

  12. I guess I would say that I am both! I knew PhotoShop pretty well learning on my own, as well an InDesign. I never really used Illustrator though until my classes. I was a graphic design major and I loved it! I would see how much you can learn on your own as a beginning. Lynda.com and Adobe offer a lot of great teaching tutorials for beginners.

  19. Hi Doris! Sadly this trunk is still sitting on my porch waiting to be refinished. I’ve been seeking advice how to get rid of the smell inside. Any tips? Until I’ve solved that I haven’t bothered figuring out the outside.

  20. Who is the source of the jar of fireflies artwork you have posted? I may want to repost or use it on a flyer.

  21. Hi Pamela! Can you send me a link to which post you found that on? Maybe then I can help!
